Who Receives Zakat?
In this game, we used the eight categories of Zakat recipients mentioned in Qur’an 9:60:
- Al-Fuqara’ (The poor): Those with almost nothing and unable to meet basic needs.
- Al-Masakin (The needy): Those who have some income but still cannot cover essentials.
- Al-‘Amileen ‘Alayha: People appointed to collect and distribute Zakat.
- Mu’allafah al-Qulub: Those whose hearts are to be reconciled, such as new Muslims.
- Ar-Riqab: Historically, freeing slaves; some scholars extend this to freeing people from unjust bondage.
- Al-Gharimeen: Those in legitimate, overwhelming debt.
- Fi Sabilillah: In the path of Allah, for causes that sincerely serve His religion.
- Ibn as-Sabeel: The stranded traveler who cannot reach home.
