Nisab is the minimum amount of wealth a Muslim must have before zakat becomes obligatory. It is based on the value of 85g of gold or 595g of silver.
The Prophet īˇē set nisab using gold and silver. Today, silver nisab is much lower, so more people qualify to pay zakat. Both are valid.
Many scholars recommend using silver nisab to maximize charity, but you may follow your local scholar or school of thought.
